Mindfulness for Kids: A Special Yoga Event in Topanga Canyon

In Los Angeles’ serene Topanga Canyon, a group of parents came together to create something special — not just another kids’ activity, but an event designed to help children slow down, breathe, and feel safe in their own bodies.

The idea was brought to life by Anna Pagava, who envisioned a series of mindfulness events created especially for children. The gathering in Topanga Canyon was just the beginning — the first step in a journey to bring mindfulness practices to kids in many different formats and settings.

This opening event centered around children’s yoga, guided by the wonderful instructor Roxy Gordon, whose gentle and playful approach helped the little ones feel both safe and inspired on the mat.

The idea was simple: while many adults practice yoga, children often don’t. This mindfulness event was created just for them — blending gentle movement, playful exercises, and moments of stillness, all under the shade of ancient oaks.

The gathering took place at Topanga Canyon Oasis, a family-owned retreat space that has welcomed seekers of rest and connection since the 1940s. Nestled in nature and surrounded by the soft hum of the canyon, this intimate venue is known for hosting healing practices such as sound therapy, forest bathing, and reiki. Its calming, intentional atmosphere was the perfect backdrop for the children’s first steps into yoga and mindfulness.

The space was set with beautifully crafted Mindful & Co Kids mats.. Their mission — to inspire and support emotionally resilient, happy, and healthy young minds — was perfectly aligned with the event’s spirit. Playful toys like Meddy Teddy added a playful touch, ensuring the kids remembered yoga as something joyful and kind. Partners were chosen with great care, aiming to create warm, lasting memories — each child received their own Teddy as a gift to carry a piece of that joy home.

Parents noticed small but powerful changes — better sleep, calmer moods, more openness. And the children left with not just the memory of the day, but a sense that mindfulness can be fun, grounding, and theirs to carry forward.

This was just the beginning. The vision is to create more moments like this — mindful, community-driven, and full of heart — to help the next generation grow with more ease, awareness, and joy.
